Final Artist Book Project

What you will do:
Individually or in pairs, you are to create a handmade book based around one artist.   There will be suggestions of different artists posted in the room for you to consider.  You may also pick your own artist if there is someone that interests you (just okay it with me first).  You will work on this project both during class and outside of class throughout the quarter.  DO NOT COUNT ON BEING ABLE TO FINISH THIS PROJECT WITH THE TIME GIVEN IN CLASS ONLY!  There will also be periodic progress checks on your books.  You will be warned ahead of time when these progress checks will be and what I will be checking.  It will be presented and turned in the last week of the quarter. Anytime you finish class work early would be a great time to get busy on this final project.

Guidelines to follow:
  • Your book must be a handmade book.
Ideas: accordion-style book, Japanese stab-binding book, book made out of cardboard, pop-  ups…
(research handmade book making technique as to how you want your book to look)
  • Your book must have decorated front and back covers relating to the artist chosen.
·         Your book must have information about your artist’s life and work.
·         Your book must include an original artwork made by you inspired by one of the artist’s famous artworks. (If you are working with a partner, each partner must create an original artwork in the book)
·         You book must have a reference page at the end listing any sources you used.
·         Lastly, your book must be creative! A simple turn-the-page book will not cut it! Think fold-outs, pockets, secret compartments in the book, peek-a-boo windows…the possibilities are endless!

There will be a specific rubric given to you at a later date.
