A. Course Description/Objectives
In this class you will be cultivating your art-making skills through a variety of art projects including collage, drawing, and painting. A variety of sources will serve as inspiration for your art-making such as your personal interests and experiences and social issues happening around the world. You will also learn to appreciate the art of others and the importance art has in human society. Lastly, you will learn to read and write in response to art.
B. Teacher’s Expectations
Here at eStem, all of the teachers have high expectations for every student. This holds true in my art class as well. My expectations of you are to put forth your best effort on every assignment, to come to class everyday prepared and eager to learn, and to contribute to a successful learning community. In return, I promise that I will put forth my best effort in teaching you, to come to class everyday prepared, and to manage a successful learning community. Together, we will make this class a great place to come everyday.
C. Materials Needed – bring these items to class everyday!
3 prong pocketed folder with paper
Hand-held pencil sharpener
Pencil
Big eraser
(your first assignment worth points will be a supplies check – have these materials by Thurs 3-31!)
D. Class Rules
1. Bring all necessary materials every day. Take RESPONSIBILITY for your success!
2. NO cell phones, MP3 players, etc. These will be confiscated if seen.
4. NO food or drinks in the classroom. Water is acceptable.
5. CLEAN up after yourselves. You have a beautiful art studio, so let’s keep it that way!
6. Be RESPECTFUL of yourselves, your classmates, your classroom, and your teacher.
7. Have an OPEN MIND.
8. Come to class everyday ready to LEARN, ready to CREATE!
G. Syllabus
Each week will consist of one main art project and several smaller written assignments. At the end of the course there will be a final artist/art movement project due, done individually or in pairs. Tests and quizzes may be given at the teacher’s discretion.

Artist Trading Cards
Artist/Art Movement Books
Op Art
Celebrity Portraits
Collaborative Figure Installation
Key concepts covered (not necessarily in this order):
The Elements and Principles of Art
Art Criticism and Self-Reflection
Composition and Unity in art
Color Theory and Practice
Self-Expression in art
F. Grading
90-100 A 70-79 C
80-89 B 60-69 D 0-59 F
Grading will be based on individual progress made by each student. Your best effort needs to be put both into the art projects and classroom assignments in order to complete this course successfully. You will not pass if you only do the art projects.
